Progress
Today BB ate three chunks of steamed squash, leaving very litle behind. She's making progress! I should go and get her some O-shaped organic cereal to try.

Last night she had spinach and her face got all red while eating it, I think she may be allergic.

Update
I guess we're in the swing of things now, so I'll just write a quick update about how it's been going. Bad reaction to avocado - BB threw up that night. Same thing goes for red bell pepper. At the same time, she didn't throw up after steamed minced beef patties, even though she didn't get much in her, mainly mashed it up with her hands and smeared it all over. I'll try tofu in a day or two, once I'm sure she's over the red bell pepper thing, it was yesterday and she's still feeling the effects, I guess, because she pooped three times today already.

Dinner
Dinner was some steamed green beans (which remained intact) and some sweet potato...No sign of the chicken coming out yet.

Yesterday - chicken
So I did go out and buy a chicken leg at the health food store, and that was dinner last night. I boiled it and first gave her the bone to gnaw on and then a chunk of the meat, which she practically inhaled, with the exception of small pieces. I was really anxious to see what would come out of it, so to speak, but so far she's pooped out only the zucchini and the fig from yesterday.

Today's breakfast was an apple...and I think lunch has been safely skipped as we went out for a long walk and now she's sleeping.

Catching up
I've been bad, no blog! So: Tuesday: apple for breakfast, didn't go too well for some reason - wasn't a Granny Smith like before. Steamed turnip for lunch - didn't go well either, even steamed it was too hard for her to nibble on. Dinner...wish I could remember...I think it was sweet potato.

Wednesday (i.e. yesterday) - steamed Romanesco cabbage, didn't steam it well enough for her to be able to eat it. Gave her some rice cake to make up for it. Zucchini for lunch, and Romanesco again for dinner, but she didn't seem to really like it.

Today: apple again for breakfast, and right now she's munching on some zucchini and a fig, which, surprisingly, was well received. Don't know yet what I'll do for dinner, have to run out to the health food store. But seeing as she got her first tooth today, I think I might welcome that in with some meat!

Today
Breakfast was a half of a steamed regular potato, and I don't think I'll be giving those to her for a while - it very easily crumbled into chokable pieces, scary. Lunch was a couple of plum slices, another fiasco - got a plum-flavored high chair and a plum-covered baby, but I don't think she swallowed any. I went with a safe food for dinner, had steamed zucchini, had a couple of gag scares though.

Yesterday - hummus!
Lunch was leftover sweet potato from the day before, and went predictably well. I was going to cook last night, but would up being too tired so we got middle-eastern take-out, and I didn't have anything ready for BB, so she got half a rice cake. On an impulse, I smeared some hummus on it and boy did she like it! She sucked it off and I dabbed some more hummus on her rice cake twice more. We should go out for Indian and get some mild curry and let her try that!

Yesterday and today's breakfast
Yesterday's breakfast was sweet potato and half a rice cake, which went well, as usual. Lunch we skipped because we went out for a long walk and I didn't bring anything along. For dinner I gave her a couple of slices of pear, and even though she chewed off bits of them, she didn't seem to like them much overall, not as much as apples. I judge by the fact that she very soon stopped munching on the pieces, just picking them up and dropping them.

Today's breakfast was two apple slices, about which Baby Bunny was much more enthusiastic!

Today's fare
Breakfast: two leftover carrot slices from yesterday and a broccoli tree. Mostly thinly spread all over hands, face, highchair, and the floor.

Lunch: half a rice cake and leftover broccoli, fared slightly better.

Dinner: baby bisquit (broken in bits and strewn all over) and two apple slices, apple a big hit as always. I think I'll try cauliflower over the weekend, and also I need to get more fruit, she was trying to snatch from me the plum I was eating today.

Broccoli!
Yay! I scored some broccoli today! There was none to be had at the two organic supermarkets near home, and none at Lidl, and none at the street kiosks, but then I remembered there were better supermarkets around as well, and sure enough they had it at Edeka, even though it's not organic.

So, breakfast was leftover zucchini from yesterday, and went very well.

So did lunch, with half a steamed carrot cut into halves lengthwise.

And dinner (broccoli) was a hit! She liked broccoli a heck of a lot more than her daddy did. Though she kept grabbing it the wrong way, grabbing the flowery part and chewing on the stem.

Today
Ok, I really need to get my act together with breakfast, because I'm never prepared for it and never have anything ready for her to eat. So today I gave her an apple slice and a baby bisquit, and so that was another non-meal.

Lunch was two zucchini wedges, which she bit and sucked on, which I consider going well.

Was going to skip dinner because baby was so tired, but since we had to put her in the high chair anyway while we ate, I figured I might as well give her some rice cake, which caused much rejoicing but wasn't really eaten, just broken into pieces and slobbered on.

Dinner - rice cake and apple
We skipped lunch because Baby took an inordinately long nap today. She was really tired by the time we sat down for dinner, but rice cake proved to be a good food...to hold. Don't know if she got much down, although she happily broke it into several small, slobbered-on chunks. She was very good at holding it with both hands and stuffing it into her mouth, though. Very efficient. She was also more efficient with the apple slice I gave her along with the rice cake, also grabbing onto it with both hands and massaging her gums with it vigorously. I wonder when those teeth are finally going to come out and whether that's going to change the way she eats...

Yesterday and today's breakfast
Yesterday's lunch was a big fat juicy date, cut into four lengthwise, pitted, of course. And a spelt baby bisquit. Although BB enjoyed mashing the bits of date with her hands, she didn't get much of it in her. The baby bisquits are also a problem since she can't figure out to put them in her mouth flat and keeps trying to fit them in sideways.

Dinner was a third of a sweet potato, and that went very well.

Today's breakfast was leftover sweet potato, a date, and a bisquit, with predictable results. I think she thinks the dates are playdough and not food. Good thing I didn't get a whole lot of them, they're delicious but expensive as heck at €20 per kilo. I'll eat the remaining two myself, thank you very much...

Breakfast
Breakfast was kind of spontaneous, I wanted to seat Baby Bunny into her highchair at the same time as her daddy sat down for his breakfast, but I procrastinated and didn't have anything steamed and ready to give her. I'm trying to give her only organic food, but I only had regular bananas, so I tried giving her one the way I read yesterday in another BLW blog - cut in half with a little bit of skin peeled off.

Well, I guess bananas have truly fallen out of favor, because she didn't want any of it. I guess I have given her pita too often as well because she didn't want that either. Finally I gave her a basil leaf (which I had also given her yesterday and which had produced much excitement) and that went over well, and then a bread crust to suck on, which turned out to be the messiest food to date. Crumbs everywhere. But at least she liked it.

What Baby Bunny ate yesterday
Breakfast was a little steamed apple, two bits of avocado, and since she didn't seem excited about either, I finally threw in a piece of pita, which she also ignored. I steamed the apple because the day before when I gave it to her raw she didn't seem to be able to hold on to it and it kept winding up on the floor. The steamed apple was much better for holding and gnawing but also much less exciting apparently.

Lunch was some steamed sweet potato, which went down very well. It was easy to hold and BB seemed to like it. I also picked up a lot of bits and pieces that fell out of her chubby hands, but a lot seemed to go down as well. We'll see in today's diaper.

Dinner was a little steamed zucchini. Zukes and squash so far are our best food, they're the easiest to hold and she is able to get a lot down by gnawing at the inside part of it (I give it to her with the skin on). But last night also left me wondering whether every parent trying BLW should take a first aid course first...because she bit off big chunks and choked on them twice. I mean, she spit them out fast enough, but I was freaking out for the rest of the meal and the rest of the night.

What we've done so far
This is going to be a filler post for now, I'll update it with the history of what we've done so far later, but for now I'm going to start keeping a current diary.

What this blog is about
I've started giving my daughter (from here on referred to as Baby Bunny) pieces of food a little over a month ago and was posting about it in my regular, friends-only blog; however, I feel the need to start a public blog charting our progress because I'm hoping to get in touch with other parents doing it. I've already run into a few problems (chunks of veggies and fruits too slippery for baby's clumsy hands; mess everywhere; can't find info on how long this stage of not being able to hold on to food in an efficient manner lasts) and am hoping that this blog and the community I'm starting will attract other parents and we can get the exchange of information going. I'll post separately about what we've done so far.
